Documented haemostatic effect

Contrary to hydrofibre dressings, Biatain® Alginate Ag has a documented haemostatic effect, i.e. ability to arrest blood flow in minor bleedings.

Mode of action

On contact with wound exudate Biatain® Alginate Ag converts to a soft, cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed for infection control. The silver complex releases ions in the presence of wound exudate.

Product composition

Biatain® Alginate Ag is an alginate dressing consisting of alginate, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and an ionic silver complex.

Usage

Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used on all moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds. Biatain® Alginate Ag may be used on infected wounds or wounds at risk of infection. Biatain® Alginate Ag can be used under compression bandages. Biatain® Alginate Ag should not be used on dry or lightly exuding wounds or to control heavy bleeding. Biatain® Alginate Ag is indicated for leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, donor sites, traumatic wounds, and second-degree burns.
